Last month, the world was reminded exactly why Conor McGregor is one of the biggest draws in sports history, finishing off Donald Cerrone faster than my first time with woman. There is no bones about it, the notorious looked fucking dynamite in there. So it isn’t a bad thing that as soon as he left the cage, the world wants him back in there as quickly as humanly possible.
The question is, after putting Cowboy to sleep faster than a Bill Cosby slumber party, what is next?
We have complied a list of potential opponents that could be next in line for Ireland’s favorite son.
1. Justin
Out of the fights that make the most sense as far as slowly moving McGregor back up the ladder and risking the least as far as building up steam for the McGregor Comeback Train, this is going to be the most logical move. Justin is going to be a tough opponent for McGregor considering his wrestling credentials, no question, but if you want to set up Conor for success with the most widest path to victory in comparison to the killers in the welterweight division, this is the match to make.
2. Nate Diaz
This is also a “safe” fight to make if I’m thinking like a corporate executive at WMG with zero knowledge of fighting and want to make a shit ton of money, considering Nate is coming off of a loss and Conor beat him in their last duel. Fairly risky if you analyze their last fight, how close Conor came to the clutches of defeat and the depths of hell Diaz took him. Medium risk, high reward match up from all sides if you weigh it.
3. Tony Ferguson
If Tony beats Khabib by some miracle of god, McGregor’s chance to reclaim the throne has a higher probability against Tony then it ever will against Khabib. Not too sure itll be the right time to do it fresh off a camp preparing for a 5 round war with Khabib, but fuck it, a conor title fight means dollars signs.
4. Khabib Nurmagomedov
I do not, I repeat, I do not want to see Conor back in the cage with Khabib until AT LEAST a year of training and a couple of tune up fights if I’m Mcgregors Manager. But to WMG board members that still have debt hanging over their heads, the rematch is the biggest fight in MMA History, breaks all PPV records, and McGregor wont say no. However, This fight provides the greatest risk of derailing McGregors hard work in preparing for his comeback.
5. Floyd Mayweather
Just kidding. Fuck making this rematch.
6. Tune Up Fights
McGregor is ranked 15th, which if I’m mcgregors manager and I’m thinking long term strategy for rebuilding Conor’s career – I’m looking at Burns, Pettis, Luque, Neal or even Lawler. Give him a couple of gimmie fights, make a shit ton of money, and set up Conor for success in the long term before tackling the hitters of the division.
Bonus Dream Fight: Nick Diaz
Im getting a chub just thinking about a potential bout with Nick Diaz. This fight just smells of entertainment and a high quality of martial arts that would blow minds and melt faces.
